BENEFITS OF THE SCIMITAR
The Scimitar Tip is the flattened edge of the tip on the trailing edge of the fin. By reducing the length of the template, we’re affecting the amount of hold the fin will have. The 3/2 foil is designed to create lift and speed, so the surface area in the tip has been reduced to tighten up the turn arc, as a compliment to the 3/2 foil. This template features a lot of surface area in the base, maximizing the potential of the foil properties through the body of the fin, finishing with this final tip enhancement to achieve the desired feeling of release from the turn.
SCIMITAR TIPs a final component to the overall Vector 3/2 set, the center fin template has been specifically designed to provide thrust into turns, while reducing drag and shortening the turn arc. The specific adjustment comes in the tip area, with a more refined Scimitar shape that is narrower than the side fins and has just a touch more rake. The trailing edge has a deeper inward curve, elongating the upper half of the fin for a touch more flex. While aesthetically similar to the side template, the refined center fin adds the perfect amount of response to complement the engineered elements of the Vector 3/2 foil on the side fins.
WHAT IS A VECTOR FOIL
Vector is a proprietary Futures foil featuring a concave surface on the inside of the front fins. Specifically in the Vector, the concave runs from the base to the tip of the fin, increasing water attachment and lift.
WHAT IS A 3/2
3/2 is a complement to the Vector foil, where the top half of the fin has an additional 3 degrees of cant and 2 degrees of toe. There is a noticeable twist to the foil, changing the planing angle in the turn at sharper angles of attack, creating lift and hold further into the turn.
CANT
The angle the fins are set is relative to the surface of the board. Normal thruster set is generally at 6.5 degrees of Cant. More Cant typically creates a loose feeling that is more responsive. The base of the 3/2 is 6.5 degrees, the tip is 9.5 degrees (+ 3 degrees).
TOE
The angle the fins are set is relative to the centerline of the board, running from nose and tail. Fins are usually set around 3 degrees of toe, angled in from the rail towards the nose. Toe-in typically creates a loose feeling that is more responsive.
WHAT ARE THE PERFORMANCE BENEFITS OF THE VECTOR 3/2
The Vector 3/2 is an amplified Speed Generating fin, as a result of maximum water attachment, over multiple planing surfaces, creating lift and reducing drag. The combined effects of the concave surface area, from base to tip, and the twist in the upper half of the fin net a uniquely positive sensation of grip and projection. In smaller waves, the feeling of speed generation is fluid and obvious. As the surf increases, the water attachment and additional lift properties provide powerful connection in turns and increased speed from one to the next, resulting in faster surfing and better turns.
