Runner-up win for Seabass and John John back in the yellow jersey

Congratulations to Sebastian Zietz on his runner up finish to Gabriel Medina in the 2017 Quiksilver Pro France. France, home of wine, baguettes, nude beaches, barrels, and massive airs. Even though the contest started off slow, France did not disappoint. When the waves turned on and so did the action. Italo Ferreira had one of the biggest backside airs of the year in Round 1, setting the performance bar high for the judges. With world number one Jordy Smith falling short to local wild-card Marc Lacomare in Round 3, John John had the opportunity to regain the yellow jersey. In his Round 3 heat against rookie Ethan Ewing, John John let loose, posting one of the highest heat totals of the contest by throwing down a crazy corked-out backside reverse and an impossible frontside reserve where his feet came off and reconnected with his board. With victory in his eyes, the ocean went quiet in his semi-final heat against Medina where he lost. Seabass, with his on rail power surfing found his way smoothly into the final, where he had his best finish of the year and jumped up to No. 11 on the rankings.
