Congratulations to runner-up Connor O'Leary and winner Matt Wilkinson!

With many lay-days along the way, mother nature decided to show up to Cloudbreak yesterday with some swell on hand. Due to big upsets in the earlier rounds, top-seed competitors like John John Florence, Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, and Jordy Smith fell short, leaving the Yellow Jersey up for grabs, giving the underdogs a chance to showcase their skills. The Spartan Michel Bourez was on fire for the whole contest, showing one of the best barrel stalls during competition in Round 1 with a soulful back foot drag stall, but fell short in the semifinals against Wilkinson's buzzer beater. One surfer that snuck under the radar into the finals with his smooth, calm, and powerful surfing was the silent assassin Connor O'Leary. Connor O'Leary was the first 2017 WSL Rookie to make a final. Connor had a strong start in the final leaving Matt Wilkinson with unanswered waves. Unfortunately O'Leary hyperextended his knee on his third wave while kicking out. Connor powered through the pain, but couldn't match an informed Matt Wilkinson with his signature hacks. Final scores: Matt Wilkinson 16.60, Connor O'Leary 15.70. Congratulations to Team Rider Connor O'Leary for your runner up finish in your first ever WSL Final!
